NEW YORK: Frozen Planet, a co-pro with the BBC, is among the upcoming new highlights for Discovery Channel in the 2011-2012 season, alongside Where’s My Mammoth? and a new season of Shark Week.

On the series front, meanwhile, the network has announced the six-part Secrets of the Universe with Penn & Teller. “There’s a natural convergence between Penn & Teller’s performances and Secrets of the Universe,” said Clark Bunting, the president and general manager of Discovery Channel. “It reflects their work with deception as magicians and debunkers in all other areas of their act, which makes it a one of a kind entertainment experience.”

There’s also Best in Business, with each episode showcasing three average American jobs; Swamp Brothers, about a Florida-based reptile sanctuary and dealership; and Life on a Wire, based around a family of circus performers. The network has also renewed Deadliest Catch, American Chopper, Dirty Jobs, Man vs. Wild, Mythbusters, Man Woman Wild, Dual Survival, Storm Chasers, Auction Kings, Hogs Gone Wild, Swamp Loggers and American Loggers.

“Discovery is mining content gold with one-of-a-kind characters, extraordinary places and unrivaled production quality that reinforces the network’s heritage while constantly innovating and pushing the brand forward,” said Bunting.
