First Sony Channel to Launch in U.K.

LONDON: Sony Pictures Television is launching Sony Entertainment Television in the U.K., set to debut on April 7 on the Sky platform.

The female-skewing channel, the first Sony-branded channel in the U.K., will target women 25 to 34 and will feature dramas, comedies and movies from around the world. Included in the channel’s first lineup are shows such as the drama HawthoRNe, the dramedy Huff and the marital comedy Til Death.

The new Sony channel will also feature movies in its 9 p.m. slot from Thursday to Monday, with films such as The Da Vinci Code, All the King’s Men and Philadelphia.

“The U.K. is a pivotal market for us as we continue to grow our television business,” said Eddie Nelson, the senior VP of networks for EMEA. “Sony Entertainment Television has enjoyed success around the world bringing the best international hits to viewers and we intend to create that same success here, with content specifically chosen for the U.K. audience.”
