LOS ANGELES: Warner Bros. has officially fired Charlie Sheen from the CBS hit sitcom Two and a Half Men, effective immediately.

In a letter to Sheen’s attorney Martin Singer, Warner Bros. recounted events over the past few years, which the studio deemed “dangerously self-destructive conduct,” that led up to Sheen’s termination.

Cited in the letter was the actor’s divorce and custody battle with Denise Richards in 2007; his arrest and guilty plea to a charge of assaulting ex-wife Brooke Mueller in 2009; and Sheen’s trashing a Plaza hotel room and threatening a paid female escort in October 2010.

Warner Bros. also highlighted Sheen’s more recent public entanglements, including his verbal attacks on show creator Chuck Lorre, as well as its belief that the actor has furnished cocaine to other people.

The Warner Bros. letter, in listing specific reasons for termination, cited: “physical appearance, inability to deliver lines, inability to collaborate creatively with staff and crew, inability to work with the executive producers, inflammatory comments poisoning key working relationships, and frustration of the show’s creative environment by the public spectacle of his self-inflicted disintegration.”

Sheen, who was under contract to finish eight more episodes this season and 24 more next season, said in a statement to TMZ.com: "This is very good news. They continue to be in breach, like so many whales. It is a big day of gladness at the Sober Valley Lodge because now I can take all of their bazillions, never have to look at whatshiscock again and I never have to put on those silly shirts for as long as this warlock exists in the terrestrial dimension."
