LONDON: Shine TV has been commissioned by BBC One to produce the one-off Bang Goes the Winter Weather (working title), a complement to BBC One’s Bang Goes the Theory series.

Bang Goes the Winter Weather, which will be anchored by Dallas Campbell, Liz Bonnan and Jem Stansfield, will focus on the explanations behind winter weather and associated phenomena using the series’ trademark techniques and unique experiments. The special is set to air on March 10.

Additionally, BBC Two is set to air Shine TV’s new factual entertainment format Wonderstuff, which puts the science of everyday items such as washing powder and toothpaste under the microscope. Journalist Jane Moore will lead the 6×30-minute series.

Shine TV’s Natalie Humphreys and BBC’s Cassian Harrison will serve as executive producers on both Bang Goes the Winter Weather and Wonderstuff.

Kim Shillinglaw, the commissioner of science and natural history for BBC One, said: “Weather is the most British of subjects—we love to talk about it, we love to learn about it. With their trademark mix of great stunts and chats with the most fascinating experts, we’re hoping that the Bang Goes The Theory team will provide a completely fresh perspective on Britain’s favorite subject.”

Shine’s head of specialist factual, Natalie Humphreys said: “With Wonderstuff we’re pleased to have developed a role for Jane as a witty new popular factual face and are already planning our next series with her. Both these recent science commissions follow a strong start to 2011 for Shine TV’s factual programming.”
