NEW YORK: Writers Jane Espenson and Drew Z. Greenberg, who previously worked together on Caprica and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will write the pilot development script for a potential U.S. version of the classic British detective show Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) for Syfy.

Espenson was recently executive producer of Caprica, with Greenberg as supervising producer. On Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Espenson was a writer/producer and Greenberg a writer. Espenson’s other writing and producing credits include Battlestar Galactica, Gilmore Girls and Dollhouse. Greenberg’s writing and producing credits include Warehouse 13 and Dexter.

The project from ITV Studios America is being exec-produced by Howard Braunstein of Jaffe/Braunstein Entertainment. Randall and Hopkirk is a co-production between Universal Cable Productions and ITV for Syfy. The show is based on the 1960s British detective series in which Hopkirk was a cop murdered on the job who returns as a ghost to help his partner Randall solve crimes.
