LOS ANGELES: The docs One Lucky Elephant, 65_RedRoses and Most Valuable Players are joining the lineup of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network as part of the network’s upcoming monthly documentary film club.

One Lucky Elephant, which was ten years in the making, tells of a circus producer who is struggling to find a nurturing permanent home for an orphaned baby African elephant. The award-winning 65_RedRoses follows a 23-year-old Canadian woman who is suffering from the genetic disease cystic fibrosis and awaiting a double lung transplant. Most Valuable Players is a film about the Freddy Awards, a live TV event honoring outstanding high school musical theater in New Jersey and the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania.

The trio of docs will join the growing lineup for OWN’s monthly documentary film club, set to launch in spring 2011.

“OWN seeks to entertain, inspire and inform,” said Lisa Erspamer, the chief creative office for OWN. “What better way to further that mission than to provide a mainstream platform for emerging and established documentary filmmakers to present different stories that move the viewer, and then to encourage a dialogue and exchange of ideas.”
