LOS ANGELES: Basic Lead, the organizers of the DISCOP conventions, along with the Paris-based training consultancy The Media Faculty, are launching a new event to take place in Los Angeles that will focus on foreign adaptation rights for film, TV and literary properties that are already proven successes in their home countries.

The Remakes Market will be held twice a year in Los Angeles and is set up to be an informal gathering over three days to focus on adapting foreign media properties that have achieved high levels of popularity in their countries of origin. The inaugural edition will take place November 29 to December 1 at the Andwaz Hotel in West Hollywood.  The first event will have a special focus on Francophone movies, books, TV series and formats that can be adapted by U.S. film and TV producers. The Remakes Market’s first edition will also pay a special homage to Alain Berheim, a talent agent who came to California from France to represent famous French authors such as Francoise Sagan, Jean-Paul Sartre and Pierre Boulle. Berheim passed away in 2009.
