New Doc Looks at South African Football Legacy

LONDON: In the catalogue of Indigo Film & Television is a new documentary, The Team That Never Played, spotlighting South Africa’s football chronology and its rise to the 2010 host nation of the World Cup.

The documentary uses football to explore South Africa’s politics and human rights over the last 34 years. It features the first-hand experiences of three top African and English First Division players from the Apartheid era, looking at how they clashed and how a race battle was fought within government, and on the pitch. While South Africa had been banned by FIFA from participating in the World Cup for 25 years, this year, on June 11, the nation will host the football tournament.
