Atlantyca to Adapt New Publishing Property for Film

LOS ANGELES/MILAN: Atlantyca Entertainment is teaming up with the Gotham Group for the film version of Italian publisher Edizioni Piemme’s book series Century.

The Century book series, recently launched in the U.S. by Random House, is written by Italian author Pierdomenico Baccalario. It is among a number of literary properties from Edizioni Piemme that are represented by Atlantyca’s foreign rights division. The books follow the challenges of four teens and their families as they search for four ancient objects that are connected to one of the four elements: fire, earth, air and water. Fulfilling old prophecies, the four soon learn they are “chosen ones,” specially selected to complete special missions.

"We have held Atlantyca in high regard for such a long time,” said Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, the Gotham Group’s founder and CEO.  “We believe the Century book series has the makings for a fantastic four-quadrant film franchise. The opportunity to produce this project with them is very exciting.”

“Without exception, we are thrilled to partner with the esteemed Gotham Group on what is our first foray into theatrical entertainment,” added Caterina Vacchi, the senior manager and executive producer for Atlantyca Entertainment. "We know we are in good hands with a company whose producing credits include The Spiderwick Chronicles and who reps a variety of talent and services across the entertainment industry, from directors and writers to publishing houses and comic-book companies. We look forward to working with them in finding the right partners to develop this for the big screen.”
