NEW YORK: BBC Worldwide has sold its preschool series 3rd & Bird! to Disney Channel in the U.S. for its Playhouse Disney block.

The show, aimed at 3- to 5-year-olds, is slated to launch in the U.S. in early 2011. Disney Channel took on all 50 10-minute episodes, along with a 20-minute holiday special. The series was created by Josh Selig and is produced by his Little Airplane Productions.

Matt Forde, the VP of sales and co-productions at BBC Worldwide for the Americas, said, “Disney is a valued partner and we believe this is the perfect home for 3rd & Bird! We’re eager to introduce U.S. audiences to Josh Selig’s delightful series that has captured the imaginations of preschoolers around the world.”

Selig added, "I am absolutely thrilled that 3rd & Bird! will be joining the wonderful shows on Playhouse Disney. We have had such a great experience making this series with CBeebies and BBC Worldwide so having our show air on Playhouse Disney is simply the icing on the cake!"
