BEVERLY HILLS: Starz has become the first premium pay-TV service to incorporate music-streaming service Spotify into its app.

The upgraded version of the STARZ app gives users access to a range of songs and soundtracks from hit TV shows, including Power, which features music from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Outlander, as well as movies such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Annie and Inside Out. The integration of Spotify into the app is meant to merge the music and video entertainment experience.

Spotify Premium users will be able to log in and listen to full tracks, while free users will have the opportunity to listen to 30-second track previews. All users will be able to save and follow Spotify playlists from within the STARZ app. Customized Starz video recommendations will also be provided to Spotify users on the app based on their listening habits.

“Starz is thrilled to share plans to soon integrate Spotify’s industry-leading streaming audio capabilities into the STARZ app,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, chief operating officer at Starz. “Spotify integration will complement and fortify the STARZ app’s appeal for distributors and consumers alike. Boasting great premium content, download capabilities, and wide availability for free use by participating cable, satellite and telco providers and a low monthly price of just $8.99 for direct subscriptions, the STARZ app has burst onto the OTT landscape, quickly become a leading player in the space.”
