FilmRise to Rep Mountain Rest in North America

FilmRise has picked up the exclusive North American distribution rights for Mountain Rest, which marks Alex O Eaton’s directorial debut.

The film, written and directed by Eaton, stars Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things) in the lead role, alongside Frances Conroy (American Horror StoryThe Tale), Shawn Hatosy (Animal Kingdom) and Kate Lyn Sheil (Brigsby Bear, House of Cards). FilmRise plans to release Mountain Rest in late 2018.

Mountain Rest tells the story of aging actress Ethel (Conroy), as she gathers together her estranged daughter, Frankie (Sheil), and granddaughter, Clara (Dyer), at her remote cabin in the mountains for a weekend of reconciliation.

“Alex O Eaton has crafted an unconventional family reunion drama with a unique, Lynchian sensibility beyond her years,” said Danny Fisher, the CEO of FilmRise. “With Mountain Rest, she has already established herself as a filmmaker to watch. We are thrilled to bring Alex’s feature debut to audiences everywhere this year.”

Eaton added, “I’m thrilled to have FilmRise release my first film, Mountain Rest. I’ve been so excited by the films they’ve put out in the last few years; their support and passion for independent film is clear. I really feel honored to be partnering with them to show the world a film that is so dear to me.”
