NBCUniversal International Formats has entered into a partnership with the SVOD service Showmax to produce a local version of Saturday Night Live in Poland, marking the NBC flagship comedy-entertainment show’s first remake in Central and Eastern Europe.

Eleven international versions of Saturday Night Live (SNL) have been licensed across the world in the past few years. Some of the more recent licenses were inked in France, the Middle East and China. SNL Poland will showcase the best in Polish comedy and entertainment and will be available on Showmax later this year.

Ana Langenberg, the senior VP of format sales and production at NBCUniversal International Formats, commented, “For over 40 years, SNL has upheld its position as an iconic comedy brand. Culturally relevant and persistently entertaining, the show already has a huge online global following, which is proving incredibly appealing to international commissioners keen to deepen that existing positive brand awareness via localization. Showmax acts as the perfect partner in Poland and we look forward to seeing SNL continue to resonate with the Polish audience.”

Maciej Sojka, the head of Showmax CEE at Showmax said, “This is a real coup for Showmax; I couldn’t be more delighted to bring this legendary show to Poland. Generations of people across the world have grown up with Saturday Night Live and remain loyal fans year in, year out. Never shying away from controversy or tackling difficult subjects, SNL is more relevant than ever in the current political environment.”
