LONDON: The MTV dating series Ex on the Beach is being adapted in France as a daily strip of 41 episodes for the first time.

Produced by 909 Productions, the adaptation will premiere on the youth and reality-focused channel NRJ12 in France on August 22. The French version will air Monday through Friday in access prime time. It will be set on the same Thai island as the fifth season of the original U.K. version, but will reportedly have a stronger focus on romance.

The deal marks MTV’s first collaboration with NRJ12 and the third local production deal for the format. Ex on the Beach was created by Whizz Kid Entertainment.

Laura Burrell, the head of formats, international program sales at Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN), commented, “We’re really excited to have worked with NRJ12 and 909 Productions on the local adaptation of one of our favorite hit shows. The fact that it will be aired daily and in a pre-watershed slot demonstrates the versatility of this explosive and captivating format. The massive success of the show to date demonstrates MTV’s continued and unrivaled ability to invest in high-quality entertainment formats that have audiences talking the world over! We can’t wait to watch the surprising twists, rekindled flames and cringe-inducing moments that Ex on the Beach France has in store!”
