FremantleMedia International (FMI) has inked a deal with the German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland for the medical drama The Heart Guy.

The series, produced by Essential Media with the support of Screen Australia and Screen NSW, will air on Sky 1 across all of Sky Deutschland’s German-speaking markets in Europe. The show follows Dr. Hugh Knight, a rising star in the Sydney heart-surgery ranks who is later forced to only work as a local doctor and retreats to his hometown.

Additionally, FMI secured a home-entertainment rights deal with Polyband, which will see The Heart Guy be released on physical and digital media across German-speaking Europe following its broadcast on Sky 1.

Maximilian Bolenius, FMI’s senior VP for German-speaking Europe and Israel, said: “The Heart Guy follows the life of a complex character as his world faces total upheaval and a forced change in direction. With that comes a host of relatable storylines and life-affirming themes. This series perfectly matches the broad profile of Sky 1—it is heartwarming, enjoyable and full of fascinating characters that we’re sure will keep Sky Deutschland’s audiences entertained.”

Christian Asanger, the VP of entertainment channels at Sky Deutschland, added: “With a brilliant cast and a breathtaking setting, the series The Heart Guy was a huge success in Australia. We are happy to present this entertaining and intriguing series to our Sky 1 audiences.”
