Yesterday Adds to Spirit of 1940 Strand

LONDON: UKTV’s Yesterday has pre-invested in the series Secret War, picking up the exclusive U.K. rights to the 13×1-hour program about the men and women who risked their lives behind enemy lines during World War II.

Secret War will air in two parts, the first of which started yesterday, while episodes six through 13 are set to air in June. Each episode features a different heroic story, detailing the lengths both sides went to in order to trap the enemy and discover their plans. The program is part of Yesterday’s Spirit of 1940 programming strand.

Richard Kingsbury, Yesterday’s channel head, said: “The Secret War is another great series for Yesterday from the award-winning production team at World Media Rights. The stories featured in the series are truly fascinating and heroic; they are exactly what we look for to entertain our viewers—captivating tales of derring-do.”

Mark Young, the senior VP of entertainment distribution at IMG Media, added: “IMG is thrilled that Yesterday have pre-bought this great new series. It follows on from the success they have had with some of our other great series which have featured in the Spirit of 1940 programming strand. We look forward to Yesterday enjoying continued success with these programs in the U.K. and our continued success with them internationally.”

Matthew Barrett, World Media Rights’ creative director, commented: “This series uncovers facts about the secret war in World War II which have never been published before; the outstanding research team at World Media Rights has come up with shocking new facts like about assassination squads in Belgium and how the Mafia were vital to the U.S. invasion of Italy.”
