Weeds Creator Joins Banff World Television Festival Lineup

TORONTO, February 28: Emmy Award-winner Jenji Kohan, the
creator and executive producer of the Lionsgate series Weeds, has been added to this year’s line-up of Master
Class speakers at the Banff World Television Festival (BWTVF).

The BWTVF will take place June 10–13 at the Fairmont
Banff Springs in Banff, Canada. Focusing on the development and production of
TV’s most popular series, BWTVF’s Master Classes provide a framework for
dialogue between the “Master” and the audience. Kohan will discuss the
evolution and success of Weeds, a series
that centers on the complicated life of a suburban pot-dealing mother. The
series earned four Golden Globe Award nominations this year, as well as a
comedy series nomination from the Producers Guild of America and two Screen
Actors Guild Award nominations.

Kohan’s writing credits include comedy shows such as Mad
About You
, Sex and the City, Gilmore Girls and Will & Grace. In
addition to an Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for her work on Tracy
Takes On
, Kohan also won the Writers Guild
Award for Best Episodic Comedy for the pilot of Weeds.

“We are very pleased to have Jenji Kohan on this year’s
line-up,” commented Jennifer Harkness, BWTVF’s director of content. “Master
Class attendees at Banff will have exclusive access to the creative mind behind
one of the most talked about series on television.”
