CANNES: Entertainment One (eOne) Television has licensed the rights to The Walking Dead to Sundance Channel in France and French-speaking Belgium.

Announcing the acquisition at MIPTV, Harold Gronenthal, senio VP and general manager of Rainbow Media Global, said, “Sundance Channel Global has staked its claim as the home for cinematic-quality original programming and The Walking Dead is the perfect addition to our slate. With its depth of storytelling and global appeal, The Walking Dead gives us an opportunity to raise the bar significantly within this popular genre.”

The show, an original production of AMC in the U.S. (also owned by Rainbow Media), is set to air on Sundance in France and French-speaking Belgium this December. It is based on the comic-book series penned by Robert Kirkman and is written, directed and exec-produced by Frank Darabont. FOX International Channels holds the international rights, with eOne handling sales outside of the FIC window. A season season is in the works.
