VisionTV Greenlights Original Dramedy

TORONTO: VisionTV has given the go-ahead to Hungry Eyes Film & Television for the original comedy-drama series She’s The Mayor.

The show was selected from some 280 submissions that the multi-faith and multicultural network received in response to a call for dramedy series proposals. The new 13-part series tells the story of a 60-something political newbie who unexpectedly wins a local election. She must then rely on instinct, her gut and dumb luck to navigate the world of city politics. She’s the Mayor was created for VisionTV by Jennifer Holness, Min Sook Lee and Sudz Sutherland.

"We were won over by the well-developed characters and the rich comic potential of the premise," said Mark Prasuhn, the COO and chief content officer for the network’s parent company, S-VOX. "At the program’s heart is a dynamic female character who defies what others expect of an ‘older’ woman and seizes the opportunity to start a new chapter of her life—an idea we believe will resonate with VisionTV’s viewership."

"The Hungry Eyes team brings a wealth of filmmaking expertise to the table, along with firsthand knowledge of how City Hall really works," added Joan Jenkinson, the director of independent production for S-VOX. "We are delighted to be working with such talented and accomplished creators, and we have faith that She’s the Mayor will prove a hit with our audience."
