Virgin Media Tops 200 Million On-Demand Views in Q1

LONDON: Thanks to the popularity of Glee, Shameless, Skins, EastEnders and Coronation Street, among other titles, British cable platform Virgin Media has recorded more than 200 million on-demand views in the first three months of this year.

Delivering content from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Virgin1 and LIVING, plus music videos and blockbuster films, Virgin Media says that more than 2.1 million subscribing are now regularly watching TV on demand, an increase of more than 250,000 in the past year. “Watching TV on demand is now part of the nations’ daily viewing habits, with millions of people tuning into the TV programs they love when they want to watch them," said Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media. "As the way people watch TV continues to change, Virgin Media is bringing the best of high definition, 3D and online TV to viewers and we continue to develop innovative new services that will help consumers make the most of the digital world."

Channel 4’s on-demand service, 4oD, recorded 19 million views in Q1, while BBC iPlayer recorded more than 50 million views. In the period, movies recorded 2.6 million views.
