Video Interview: Richard Propper

NEW YORK: Richard Propper, the founder and president of Solid Entertainment, discusses his business strategy in this video interview, along with talking about WESTDOC, the conference he co-founded for the nonfiction arena.

Through its extensive and diverse catalogue, Solid Entertainment has built its hallmark around supplying quality programming, with two elements it considers essential to the design: global appeal and strong narrative structure. The company’s portfolio spans current affairs, history, military, adventure, science and technology, among other genres, though automotive and wildlife have emerged as its top sellers as of late. Propper founded Solid in 1994, and has grown the business considerably within this time as its president. He talks in this video interview about his business strategy for leading Solid through the tough last few years and how he’s positioned the company for a strong 2011.

Propper is also the co-founder of WESTDOC: The West Coast Documentary and Reality Conference, a three-day event that brings together producers, directors, writers, network executives, agents and distributors from the nonfiction arena. The event made its second outing this fall, with a successful run that has left Propper with high hopes for the WESTDOC conferences to come. He discusses the event, touching on its highlights as well as its place in the market, in this video interview.
