NEW YORK: USA Network has announced a slate of development projects from, among others, The Office‘s Steve Carell and ER‘s Anthony Edwards, as it gears up to celebrate the fifth anniversary of its "Characters Welcome" brand this summer.

Jeff Wachtel, the president of original programming at USA Network and co-head of original content at Universal Cable Productions, noted: "With the proven power of the ‘Characters Welcome’ brand guiding our development, USA has produced a stunning track record of number one new original series for four consecutive years, and has grown the network into a trusted destination for quality programming. These new projects all combine strong characters and superior storytelling, offering viewers the kind of exceptionally written, aspirational originals they won’t find anywhere else."

From Steve Carell and John Michael Higgins (Best in Show) is a show about a crusading middle class insurance investigator who ferrets out high stakes drama. The upcoming slate also includes A Legal Mind, from writer Aaron Korsh (The Deep End) and executive producers David Bartis and Gene Klein of Dutch Oven, about a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout hired by one of Manhattan’s top lawyers. Robyn, from Becky Hartman Edwards (Parenthood, Life On Mars), focused on the daughter of a corrupt financier who rips off the decadent upper class and gives the earnings to the exploited underclass. From Summerland‘s Gay Welch comes a drama about a woman whose husband leaves town after getting in too deep with the mob, leaving her to clean up the mess. Also on the slate are Stick, a drama from writers Mark Cullen and Rob Cullen, and The Velvet Hammer, executive produced by Anthony Edwards and Cheryl Dolins of Grand Central Entertainment with CBS Television Studios. In addition, Steve Franks, creator of Psych, John McNamara, executive producer of In Plain Sight and Jan Nash, writer on the new USA series Facing Kate, are in talks to develop projects.
