UN Deputy Secretary-General, Steve Irwin’s Daughter, Launches TV Series on World Environment Day

NEW YORK, June
5: United Nations (UN) deputy secretary-general Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, and Bindi
Irwin, daughter of Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin, celebrated the launch of the new
Discovery Kids Channel series, Bindi: The Jungle Girl at the UN headquarters in New York.

The event
coincided with the occasion of World Environment Day. Bindi’s mother Terri
Irwin was also present, as was Marjorie Kaplan, the president and general
manager of Animal Planet and Discovery Kids Media. The first episode of the new
series, titled “Not Many Left,” will air on Saturday June 9 at 5 p.m. on the Discovery Kids
Channel, and will feature some of the world’s most amazing creatures whose
existence is threatened. Bindi, who hosts the series, hopes to get more
children interested in wildlife conservation.

This is the
first collaboration of Discovery Communication’s PlanetGreen initiative with
