MAINZ: ZDF Enterprises has teamed up with independent doc producer Jasper James, founder of the U.K. production company Screen Glue, to create three new documentary productions.

ZDF Enterprises will handle the worldwide distribution of all three.

Among them, Why Size Matters will see James take the audience to a series of parallel worlds where size can be changed, to answer the biggest (and smallest) questions in the universe in an unforgettable way. The ZDF/Terra X editors and ARTE have agreed to team up for the project and shooting will begin soon. Broadcasting will follow in the spring of 2018.

A Day in the Life of Earth, currently in development and open for co-production, shows the changes that happen across Earth in the space of just one day. Supplemented by CGI animations, this film goes to the ends of the Earth to reveal the dynamism of a planet always in motion.

Top Ten Wonders of the Universe, also currently in development and open for co-production, will take viewers around the space-time continuum to present the ten most awesome experiences in the universe as chosen by ten of the foremost scientists, astronauts and thinkers of our time.

Ralf Rueckauer, the VP of ZDFE.factual at ZDF Enterprises, said: “Jasper James has this very rare talent of being able to turn hardcore science into an entertaining documentary that delves deep into specific topics. He is a great storyteller, he has an excellent scientific eye and is always curious to learn more about humanity and about the world we inhabit. ZDFE.factual is delighted to collaborate with him on these three fascinating projects.”

James commented: “We set up this business to create big, ambitious projects that were both entertaining and had global reach—and the ZDF Enterprises team not only shares our vision, but also provides the kind of support you need when you’re trying to pull together the world’s biggest broadcasters. These three new shows will all deliver a new way of looking at our world and I am confident that they will surprise and delight both international broadcasters and viewers alike.”
