WaterBear Launches A Lens on the World

Nikon Europe’s first WaterBear original documentary, A Lens on the World, has made its debut on the streaming platform.

A Lens on the World follows Seattle-based award-winning documentary photographer Kiliii Yuyan, who is of both Nanai/Hèzhé (East Asian Indigenous) and Chinese-American ancestry, as he investigates the detrimental impact of the decline in Chinook salmon numbers on the local Indigenous communities and on the Southern Resident orca populations in the region.

The launch of A Lens on the World follows the creation of a dedicated Nikon channel on WaterBear and the Environmental Photographer of the Year competition, showcasing some of the world’s best environmental photographs.

Julian Harvie, head of marketing, Nikon Northern Europe, said: “Reaffirming our belief, like WaterBear’s, in the power of storytelling to drive change, this film showcases a powerful way of illuminating the importance of narrative through photography. Told through the talent of our Nikon photographers using Nikon cameras, the film draws attention to the huge decline in Chinook salmon populations in a way that we believe will connect people to this significant story like never before.”
