Tŷ’r Ddraig, Captain Jac & Boom Cymru Win S4C Commissions

Production companies Tŷ’r Ddraig, Captain Jac and Boom Cymru have secured commissions to deliver factual content for S4C.

“We’re delighted to award these tenders to Tŷ’r Ddraig, Captain Jac and Boom Cymru; all strong and creative voices within the production sector,” said Llion Iwan, chief content officer at S4C. “The commissions reflect our commitment to creating first-class factual content that is not only relevant but will also entertain our diverse audiences across Wales and beyond. These companies bring experience as well as new and bold ideas, and we can’t wait to see their ideas come to life on S4C.”

The companies will work on a mix of series, single docs, short-form content for YouTube and content for social media. The new content will include original formats, true-crime documentaries and an American travel series.

Boom Cymru will create a cultural long-form documentary about the history of Welsh hip hop music by looking at the life and work of one of the pioneers of the UK’s beatboxing scene, Mr Phormula—Ed Holden. Gruffydd Davies will be directing the documentary.

“We’re excited to be producing a feature documentary that tells the story of hip hop music in Wales over the last four decades, curated by the amazing Mr Phormula—Ed Holden,” said Beca Evans at Boom Cymru. “He’s an artist that has truly set the scene within the genre in Wales whilst also gaining international recognition as a leading beatboxer, rapper, and music producer. The director of the film is Gruffydd Davies, who is passionate about Welsh music and creating artistic films.”

“Creating powerful documentaries and compelling factual content sits at the heart of everything we do, and we’re excited to continue doing what we love—while championing our talented freelance colleagues and opening doors for the next generation of creative talent in West Wales,” said Catrin Rowlands and Trystan Dafydd Rowlands from Captain Jac. “We’re also looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with the brilliant team at Tŷ’r Ddraig.”

“We are honored to be awarded the factual tender by S4C—it’s a transformative moment and opportunity for Tŷ’r Ddraig and our partners, Captain Jac,” said Ben Smith from Tŷ’r Ddraig. “As well as being an exciting chance to make new, agenda-setting formats and documentaries, we’re also looking forward to working with and developing new production talent from across our respective regions.”
