Sky Arts Orders Richard Pryor Doc from Rumpus Media

Rumpus Media has been commissioned by Sky Arts to produce the one-off documentary Passions: Richard Pryor by Romesh Ranganathan for the channel’s Passions season.

Passions: Richard Pryor by Romesh Ranganathan will spotlight the life and work of the American stand-up, who served as inspiration for British comedian Romesh Ranganathan. The hour-long doc will see Ranganathan travel to L.A. to follow in the footsteps of the troubled comic. It was commissioned by Bill Hobbins for Sky Arts and will be executive produced by Emily Hudd, produced by Ben Rogers and directed by Chris Cottam for Rumpus Media.

Ranganathan commented: “It was great to be able to explore the genius of Richard Pryor and learn more about one of my heroes. Spending time in L.A. talking to various people about his life, I felt grateful for both the experience and for the fact he didn’t spend his life in Hastings.”

Hudd added: “We are thrilled to be working with Romesh again on this documentary. Getting the insider’s take on Pryor’s comedy and life from someone who is himself a brilliant stand-up is a real treat.”
