Shine TV has appointed Nicola Brown, executive producer of Celebrity Hunted and The Island with Bear Grylls, to the newly created role of head of documentaries, effective next year.

Working under Tanya Shaw, Shine TV’s managing director, Brown will be charged with developing and expanding the indie’s factual output. The company hopes that this new position will use technological innovation and insight gained from factual-entertainment projects to help refresh the genre.

Shaw remarked: “Shine TV is well known for breaking new ground in the factual entertainment space and we are now going to apply this to documentaries. Nicola brings a wealth of fresh ideas to the genre as well as an incredible track record in delivering inventive and engaging series, so I’m really excited about how we can develop this part of the business.”

Brown added: “Having spent the last 18 months at Shine, I’m thrilled to be joining the team on a permanent basis and look forward to expanding the company’s factual output and building on their reputation as bold and innovative storytellers.”
