SILVER SPRING: Athena, an RLJ Entertainment (RLJE) brand, has picked up the EST, SVOD and home-video rights in North America for the Higher Ground documentary series Soundbreaking: Stories from the Cutting Edge of Recorded Music.

Soundbreaking was produced in association with the late music producer Sir George Martin and filmmakers Show of Force. The eight-part program features more than 150 exclusive and original interviews with music industry pioneers, including producers and such recording artists as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Roger Waters and Joni Mitchell, to name a few. Soundbreaking will make its North American broadcast debut on PBS member stations on November 14, with next-day availability to buy digitally via such platforms as iTunes, Amazon Video, Vudu, Google Play, Microsoft Movies & TV and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Athena will release the docuseries on DVD and Blu-ray on November 29.

Mark Stevens, the president of Acorn Brands at RLJE, noted: “With more than 150 exclusive interviews and rarely seen footage, Higher Ground, Sir George Martin and Show of Force have created a remarkable, one-of-kind music documentary series sure to become iconic. Soundbreaking is exactly the kind of high-caliber, non-fiction programming we seek out to offer consumers through our Athena brand.”
