Regional NHK Station Teams with PTS for Taiwan Rocket Doc

The NHK regional station NHK Obihiro Station and the Taiwanese public broadcaster PTS have partnered to co-produce a documentary capturing the launch of the first Taiwanese rocket.

The rocket launch by Taiwan Innovative Space (TiSpace) is scheduled for spring 2025 in Hokkaido, Japan, marking the first foreign rocket to be launched from Hokkaido Spaceport. The documentary will follow the launch and delve into Taiwan’s space research and industry, as well as Japan’s local revitalization of Hokkaido through combining agricultural and spaceport development.

PTS and NHK Obihiro Station will jointly conduct the research and filming. The city of Obihiro is in the district where the Hokkaido Space Port is.

The documentary is the first co-production project for NHK Obihiro Station.

“NHK and PTS have co-produced various projects in the past, but this is the first time that we, an NHK regional station, will mainly be involved,” said Junji Matsuoka, director-general of NHK Obihiro Station. “We are very excited to work together with PTS, especially on such a wonderful topic—space. I am confident that this partnership will result in a great project.”

Cindy Shyu, president of PTS, added, “This is a rare space program filming project for Taiwan, and PTS is incredibly excited about the outcome of this collaboration.”
