PBS International Reveals MIPTV Lineup

PBS International has unveiled the lineup of factual programs it will be presenting at MIPTV, including the new film Casa Susanna.

Directed by Sébastian Lifshitz, Casa Susanna tells the true story of an underground network of transgender women and cross-dressing men who found refuge at a modest house in upstate New York in the 1950s and ’60s. It won the Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC in November 2022.

Casa Susanna is produced by Agat Films, ARTE France and American Experience Films. It originally premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022.

Also on the PBS International MIPTV slate is New Eye on the Universe, following scientists as they peer deep in time with NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to answer some of astronomy’s biggest questions. The James Webb Telescope launched in late 2021 and had its first images revealed to the public in July 2022. The film has already been licensed by SVT (Sweden) and MBN (MENA), with additional deals pending.

FRONTLINE’s Putin and the Presidents will also be presented at MIPTV. The film chronicles Vladimir Putin’s clashes with American presidents over five administrations as he’s tried to rebuild the Russian empire. It traces the miscalculations and missteps of American presidents, which eventually culminated in Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. It is directed by veteran FRONTLINE filmmaker Michael Kirk and has been licensed by Yle (Finland), VRT (Belgium), PBS America (U.K.), B1 (Romania), ERR (Estonia), TF1 (France) and Asharq (MENA).

Another project from Kirk, Secrets, Politics and the Supreme Court takes a look into the power and influence of Clarence and Ginni Thomas on the Supreme Court and American politics.

Also from FRONTLINE is Martin Smith’s three-part series America and the Taliban, delving into how America’s 20-year investment in Afghanistan culminated in Taliban victory.

“PBS International is proud to present a spring lineup with a focus on themes and events that resonate on a global level: from cutting-edge space exploration to LGBTQ rights to the war in Ukraine, we offer relevant and enriching content on topics that continue to occupy headlines worldwide,” said Joe Barrett, VP of global sales at PBS International.

Barrett continued, “Our mission is to partner with clients who are passionate about bringing award-winning public-media content to global audiences.”
