Orange Smarty Inks Deals for U.K. Docs

Orange Smarty has made a string of deals with broadcasters across Europe for its slate of prime-time U.K. documentaries, including with DR in Denmark.

Per the deals, the docs will also go to SVT in Sweden, VRT in Belgium, KRO-NCRV in the Netherlands and Ceska Televize in the Czech Republic. Denmark’s DR has acquired a package of docs that includes Trevor McDonald and the Killer Nurse, Wildman to Ironman and three titles from award-winning U.K. producer True Vision: Born on the Breadline, Behind Closed Doors: Through the Eyes of a Child and Stacey Dooley: The Young and Homeless.

Stacey Dooley: The Young and Homeless, a 59-minute observational film for BBC One that follows three homeless teens, has also been acquired by VRT Belgium and SVT Sweden.

Meanwhile, KRO-NCRV has acquired Dirty Vegan, a brand-new series that looks to prove the positives of vegan food, for NPO3.

A trio of docs will head to Ceska TV: Living with My Supersized Pets, an hour-long dive into why some people choose to own pets that could easily kill them; Meet the Hedgehogs, a three-parter set in the Amazing Grace Rescue Centre, founded by Dr. Brian May of the rock band Queen, that goes inside the world of hedgehogs; and Benvenuto Cellini, a two-hour-plus performance of the English National Opera’s interpretation of Berlioz’s first opera.
