New BBC Two Docuseries Explores Women’s Role in Hip-Hop

BBC Two has slated the debut of First Ladies of Hip Hop, delving into the untold stories of women who have played a pivotal role in the hip-hop movement, for October 7.

The three-part series features firsthand accounts from the artists, producers, DJs and industry insiders who broke through barriers, shattered stereotypes and paved the way for future generations, including Eve, Rah Digga, Sha Rock, Debbie D, Deidra Roper (DJ Spinderella of Salt-n-Pepa), Yo-Yo, Millie Jackson, Cheryl the Pearl, JJ Fad, Sheri Sher and many more.

Narrated by Neneh Cherry, the series also shines a spotlight on the contributions of British women who had an impact on the genre, including Monie Love, Estelle, Betty Boo, Cookie Pryce, the Wee Papa Girl Rappers and Lisa Maffia.

The first two episodes of the series are set to air on October 7, with the final episode dropping on October 14.
