ID is set to launch Murder Under the Friday Night Lights, a new docuseries produced by Lion Television US.

Murder Under the Friday Night Lights takes a look at shocking and tragic cases—including obsessions, violence and even murder—involving local high school football teams across the U.S. The series is slated to premiere on ID on January 4, with new episodes launching on Tuesdays.

Featuring accounts from those close to the crimes and archival footage, Murder Under the Friday Night Lights shows how off-field tragedy can have ramifications far beyond the team. Cases include that of a football player in a small Texas town who terrorized his team’s cheerleaders and a promising football star who was gunned down before he could start his freshman season at the University of Oregon.

Jason Sarlanis, president of crime and investigative content at Discovery, said: “High school football is a bedrock of small-town America, where the hometown team is often the centerpiece of the local community. But sadly these local traditions can come with an unexpected dark side, as the cases in Murder Under the Friday Night Lights show. Uncontrollably jealous teammates, cheerleaders gone missing and even local authorities going to extraordinary lengths to cover up for the star player; these crimes can have a tragic impact on the whole town, and their damage can ripple throughout the community for years to come.”
