The 2020 International Emmys for news and current affairs were presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences during an online ceremony in conjunction with the U.S. News Emmys.

The 2020 International Emmy for news was presented to Hong Kong Year of Living Dangerously (Channel 4 News/ITN, U.K.), showing how in 2019, Hong Kong surprised itself, China and the rest of the world. The International Emmy for current affairs was presented to Undercover: Inside China’s Digital Gulag (Hardcash Productions/ITV, U.K.). ITV went undercover into China’s secretive Xinjiang region.

“Tonight, we are privileged to recognize the courageous journalists behind these excellent programs,” said International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ president and CEO, Bruce L. Paisner. “It has been fashionable in some places to talk a lot about fake news, but the nominated programs make it clear that the news coverage around the world is not only not fake, but essential to people conducting their lives in these complicated times.”
