The U.K. indie Icon Films and Fremantle have partnered for the international distribution of the documentary feature Okavango—A Flood of Life.

Told through the eyes of the region’s indigenous river people, Okavango—A Flood of Life explores Africa’s Okavango Delta, exploring the extraordinary human and animal relationships that play out in an environment where water changes everything. In the blue-chip natural history doc, Brad Bestelink and his team at the Natural History Film Unit use the latest technology to film a full seasonal cycle on the Delta in full 8K.

Fremantle will be distributing Okavango—A Flood of Life worldwide, excluding Japan, where NHK has exclusive rights. The international version will be narrated by Lucian Msamati (Game of Thrones, His Dark Materials).

Lucy Middelboe, commercial director at Icon Films, said: “This project has been a true collaboration of partners across continents and we are delighted to have Fremantle supporting distribution of Okavango—A Flood of Life. Fremantle has an impressive slate and vast experience of selling premium content internationally, which we believe will deliver great returns on our investment. We are in no doubt this film will surprise and delight audiences across the globe.”

Céire Clark, senior acquisitions manager for international at Fremantle, said: “It’s a joy to partner with Icon Films on Fremantle’s first blue-chip natural history film for the international market. Okavango—A Flood of Life showcases the incredible wildlife and fascinating ecosystem surrounding the Okavango Delta, which will be sure to captivate global broadcasters with its stunning visuals and extraordinary storytelling.”
