HBO Debuting The Invisible Pilot Docuseries

The HBO original documentary series The Invisible Pilot, from Emmy-winning filmmakers Phil Lott and Ari Mark, is slated to premiere next month.

Executive produced by Adam McKay (Succession), the three-parter tells the story of a husband and father who unexpectedly jumped off a bridge in 1977, despite a seemingly happy home life and a lucrative career as a pilot. Years later, a narrative emerges that involves hypnosis, secret identities and a double life.

The Invisible Pilot will premiere on HBO on April 4 and will be available to stream on HBO Max.

After Gary Betzner, a father of three, unexpectedly commits suicide, the mystery surrounding his death leads to a caper-filled tale involving a secret world of drug smuggling, gun-running and involvement in a covert war. The Invisible Pilot will feature archival material and testimony from Betzner’s wife, ex-wife, children, friends and associates, public defenders, law officers and journalists.

The HBO Documentary Films original is produced by Ample Entertainment and Hyperobject Industries. Lott and Mark are directing. McKay executive produces alongside Todd Schulman, Mark, Lott, Craig Hodges and Jon Bryant Crawford.
