HBO Aligns with Raoul Peck for Colonialism Docuseries

Raoul Peck, the Academy Award nominee behind I Am Not Your Negro and Sometimes in April, has teamed up with HBO for the new docuseries Exterminate All the Brutes.

The four-part series offers an exploration of the exploitative and genocidal aspects of European colonialism from America to Africa, with Peck deconstructing the dark times in world history through a personal voyage. Exterminate All the Brutes will weave together documentary footage and archival material with animation and interpretive scripted scenes. Josh Hartnett will play the lead role in the scripted portions of the film.

Exterminate All the Brutes is based on Sven Lindqvist’s book of the same name as well as Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz’s An Indigenous People’s History of the United States and Michel-Rolph Trouillot’s Silencing the Past. The series is produced by Velvet Film, which is handling the series’ rights in international territories alongside ICM Partners.

Peck said: “This project has been my biggest challenge so far. It forced me to question not only our common knowledge but also my own experience as a filmmaker. I’m excited that HBO is supporting that vision.”
