Fremantle Acquires Brigitte Bardot Documentary

Fremantle has scored the global distribution rights for Bardot, a feature documentary about French actress Brigitte Bardot from Featuristic Films and TimpelPictures.

Through never-before-seen archive footage and exclusive interviews, the 90-minute film gives viewers a glimpse into Bardot’s life as one of the first French movie stars to attain worldwide fame. Since retiring from the spotlight in the ’70s, she has remained an enigma, but in this doc, she shares her perspective on her career and her current outlook on life as she approaches her 90th birthday.

The documentary also includes interviews with those who lives and careers were impacted by Bardot, including Pamela Anderson, Paul Watson, Claude Lelouch, Allain Bougrain-Dubourg and Jean-Max Rivière.

Bardot is directed by Alain Berliner (Passion of Mind, Ma Vie en Rose). It is a co-production between TimpelPictures, led by Nicolas Bary (Little Spirou, The Scapegoat, Trouble at Timpetill), and Featuristic Films, led by Julien Loeffler, James Kermack and James Barton-Steel (Laurent Garnier: Off the Record, Afghanistan, Knuckledust).

Céire Clark, senior acquisitions manager, international, at Fremantle, said: “Not only does this documentary look at the cinematic journey of Brigitte Bardot but it also delves into her fascinating personal life whilst allowing us to hear her present reflections on poignant, sometimes controversial moments in her life. It’s a privilege for Fremantle to be able to share this exclusive access to Bardot with a global audience.”

Loeffler, managing partner and producer at Featuristic Films, said: “Bardot is an important milestone in solidifying Featuristic Films’ slate of international high-end feature documentaries with unique access. We are excited to be partnering up with distribution powerhouse Fremantle to bring this exciting title to audiences worldwide”

Bary added: “Our ambition is to bring a fresh point of view to Brigitte Bardot, underlying the many contrasts of her life, questioning both the fascination and repulsion she has generated in audiences over the years. With her exclusive interview we will bring intimacy and emotion to her intense biography. The film will have a classically cinematic and yet modern texture, mixing and layering different techniques including interview, animation, archives, and dramatic reconstructions that blend Brigitte’s dreams with her reality. We are also presenting new recordings of her iconic song titles by Arthur H, Camille, Shelah Sue, Ibrahim Maalouf…”
