Firecracker Sets Up Glasgow Venture

LONDON: Firecracker Films, part of the Tinopolis Group, has set up a new venture in Glasgow, dedicated to popular factual programming.

Firecracker has appointed Elspeth O’Hare as creative director of Firecracker Scotland. Elspeth joins from IWC, where she served as head of documentaries. Producer Jennifer Gilroy will also join the team in Glasgow, who are already in advanced negotiations with Channel 4 about an innovative factual-entertainment format to be produced out of Scotland.

Firecracker Scotland will be based at the Ingram Street hub, where fellow group members Mentorn Scotland and Sunset+Vine are already established.

Jes Wilkins, the chief creative officer at Firecracker, said: ”We’ve produced two recent series in Scotland and it’s a natural progression for us to establish a permanent base there. Elspeth is a talented and well-respected business winning executive producer as well as being a lovely person, so we’re delighted to be embarking on this new venture with her and Jennifer, to create exciting new Firecracker shows out of Glasgow.”

O’Hare added: “I have always admired the innovation and creativity of Firecracker. Its commitment and investment in a new Scottish center of production is an exciting opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”

Arwel Rees, CEO of the Tinopolis Group, commented: “Firecracker’s new venture in Scotland is a testament to how much we value our presence within the region. Through Sunset+Vine, Mentorn and now Firecracker we are a significant player in Scottish television, making programs for Scotland but also from Scotland to U.K. networks and beyond. Having a base in Glasgow will enable Firecracker to create even more opportunities for high-quality content to be produced by locally sourced talent. We hope this further expansion will be seen as a sign of our commitment to making the region a truly world-class center for TV production.”
