Escapade Inks New Theatrical Deal for BIG vs SMALL

Escapade Media has signed a theatrical deal for BIG vs SMALL that will see the documentary released in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand from September 2021.

Garage Entertainment secured the title and will complement the cinema release with event screenings with Q&As that will include surfer Joana Andrade and writer and director Minna Dufton. Following the theatrical premiere, there will be a release schedule for TV and on demand.

When filmmaker Minna Dufton started her documentary about the “tiny fighter” elite big wave champion surfer Joana Andrade who rides the powerhouse waves at Nazaré, Portugal, she was unaware that Andrade harbored a secret fear of drowning. The revelation ultimately brings together the tiny Portuguese surfer with Finnish world champion free diver Johanna Nordblad for the most unusual of training sessions.

Minna Dufton said: “I’m thrilled that BIG vs SMALL will be screening for both surfers and non-surfers alike in one of the places on earth so closely aligned with the ocean and its raw power. It means a great deal to be on this journey to audience outside of Portugal and Finland where the film takes place, as it means it truly is a universal story that touches us all.”

Garage Entertainment commented: “Joana’s story is truly inspiring, both she and Johanna are wonderful role models. We believe this film will resonate on deeply personal levels, both with our established endemic audience as well as with a broader market.”

Natalie Lawley from Escapade Media added: “This deal will see this film released on the big screen and beyond. We are thrilled that BIG vs SMALL is joining Garage Entertainment’s pedigree of films within this genre.”
