LOS ANGELES: Discovery Channel has lined up its first-ever true-crime series, Killing Fields, which takes viewers inside of an active criminal investigation as it unfolds.

The series is shot in real time to follow the hunt for the killer. It is produced by Sirens Media, a Leftfield Entertainment company. Killing Fields will debut on Discovery on January 5 at 10 p.m. The show is led by Detective Rodie Sanchez, who has been working on a case that went cold nearly two decades ago in the small community of Iberville Parish, Louisiana.

"You never forget your first murder or crime scene," Sanchez said. "Once that gets in your blood, you want to be a cop for the rest of your life. I had a good life in law enforcement for over 30 some years. I missed it and thought about [this case] every day."
