Denmark’s DR Taps New Editor-in-Chief of Doc Divisions

DR in Denmark has appointed Mikala Krogh (Scandinavian Star) as the new editor-in-chief of its documentary divisions, DR Dokumentar and P1 Dokumentar.

Krogh is set to begin in her new role in February. The documentary divisions she will oversee are two independent editorial offices that have approximately 20 employees in total and are increasingly collaborating on specific projects.

Krogh joins DR from Danish Documentary, a production company she has been at since 2009. She began her career as a studio host and producer at DR and went on to direct a number of documentaries.

Thomas Falbe, editor-in-chief of DR News, said: “She is one of the most established names in the Danish documentary film community, where she has helped to move both journalism and communication to new heights, most recently with the series Scandinavian Star. She is therefore an obvious choice to step into the proud tradition that DR Dokumentar is a bearer of. DR has a very special obligation to cultivate documentary as a genre, develop new talents and elevate both investigative journalism and documentary reporting to a wide audience.”

Falbe added that Krogh is well-suited to lead “DR Dokumentar into a future where competition from foreign services helps to change both the market and the users’ habits.”

Krogh said: “DR Dokumentar has always been a strong brand, both as a TV and podcast. But in a large media landscape with endless offers and increased battle for audience interest, it is important to strengthen and develop DR Dokumentar’s content and form and place it firmly in the Danes’ consciousness. A good story and journalistic revelations are of course the prerequisite, but the execution and the narrative are just as important. And here I see important development work for DR Dokumentar, where I, through my background and extensive experience, have a lot to contribute. I believe that DR Dokumentar must have greater dramaturgical and visual ambitions. Another important priority will be to make major Nordic and international co-productions with other public-service media houses.”
