CuriosityStream Commissions Secrets of the Solar System

In its third commissioning deal with the London-based indie Bigger Bang, the factual VOD service CuriosityStream has picked up Secrets of the Solar System (working title).

Following on from the Emmy-winning Stephen Hawking’s Favorite Places and Revolutions: The Ideas that Changed the World, Secrets of the Solar System (w/t) features unparalleled access to the world’s space agencies, their data, images and personnel, to reveal the beauty and majesty of our local universe. The eight episodes—starting with the “Grand Tour,” followed by episodes focusing on the Sun, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, the Asteroid Belt and Pluto and the outer planets—are packed with real space imagery and interviews with the actual people who carried out missions to these incredible places.

Executive produced by Ben Bowie and Iain Riddick for Bigger Bang, Secrets of the Solar System (w/t) is distributed globally by Fremantle.

Riddick, joint managing director and creative director at Bigger Bang, said: “Secrets of the Solar System (w/t) is the remarkable story of the world beyond us, told by the amazing people who sent missions there. Organized as a grand geographical travelogue, it covers the greatest set of journeys ever taken, spanning hundreds of millions of kilometers and building into the ultimate guide. This isn’t just a stunningly beautiful science series, it tells the lesser-known stories of the incredible sacrifices that were made to bring this information back to Earth for all humanity.”

Bowie, also joint managing director and creative director at Bigger Bang, added: “Our programming aims to bring new audiences to epic subjects, and we hope this series no exception. This series exemplifies one of Bigger Bang’s major interests—telling the stories of how humans have changed the world through their personal endeavors. We recognize the global, timeless appeal of these stories, so we hope that this series does as well internationally as Revolutions did.”
