Channel 5 has gained exclusive access to iconic musician Dolly Parton for the documentary special Dolly Parton: In Her Own Words, slated to air on December 29.

Produced by Lonesome Pine, the 90-minute documentary features new interviews and archive footage to explore what has made Parton and her music beloved around the globe. Parton herself also discusses her recently released album Rockstar, her first rock and roll album, which followed her inauguration into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Other big names included in the documentary are singer-songwriters Emmylou Harris and Peter Frampton, as well as radio and television presenter Ken Bruce.

“I’m absolutely delighted the world’s biggest country music star has chosen to talk exclusively to Channel 5,” said Greg Barnett, commissioning editor of factual entertainment and unscripted at Channel 5 and Paramount+. “She’s had quite the life, a career spanning more than 50 years, and is still going strong in 2023 and has huge plans for the future. This will be an enlightening, endearing and entertaining special.”

Lesley Douglas, executive producer at Lonesome Pine, added, “It’s a great opportunity to see and hear from the Queen of Country, who is also now the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
