Channel 4 & HBO Order The Hunt for Jihadi John

Channel 4 and HBO have co-commissioned a feature documentary from Nutopia and Livedrop Media titled The Hunt for Jihadi John.

The 90-minute doc tells the story of London-born Mohammed Emwazi, who would later come to be known as the notorious terrorist Jihadi John. It will air on TX on Monday, May 20, at 9 p.m. Directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Anthony Wonke (Syria: Children on the Frontline, Ronaldo), The Hunt for Jihadi John is written and produced by BAFTA-winning journalist Richard Kerbaj (My Son the Jihadi, Hunting the KGB Killers).

The film explores the lives of Jihadi John’s hostages and the psychological toll that their murders took on their family members. It also chronicles the hunt for the British terrorist by the CIA, Pentagon and British intelligence operatives, some of whom speak publicly about the operation for the first time. Their first-hand accounts also delve into their own failures in the fight against ISIS and the cropping up of a new generation of “Jihadi millennials” who become radicalized online.

The Hunt for Jihadi John is the latest collaboration between HBO and Channel 4, coming on the heels of the ratings hit Leaving Neverland. Worldwide distribution, excluding the U.S. and U.K., for the documentary will be handled by Entertainment One (eOne).
