TORONTO: Bristow Global Media is producing the ten-part docudrama Canada: The Story of Us, based on the Nutopia format, for CBC to air in 2017.

Production has already begun and shooting is planned to wrap on July 22. Canada: The Story of Us will then air exclusively on CBC in 2017 as part of the pubcaster’s lineup of original programming commissioned to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary.

The 10×1-hour series will explore the people, places and events that have shaped the country. It will combine fact-based dramatizations and CGI animation, along with interviews.

Nutopia’s Story of Us format has aired in Australia, the U.K. and the U.S.

“We’re delighted to be working with CBC on Canada: The Story of Us to celebrate Canada’s heroes through dramatic re-enactments and interviews with iconic Canadians, and ignite a national conversation about what it means to be Canadian,” said Julie Bristow, the president and CEO of Bristow Global Media.

“It is always incredible to see how the Story of Us format is translated across continents and it couldn’t be in better hands than with Julie and her team,” said Jane Root, CEO of Nutopia. “Nutopia looks forward to seeing the amazing stories that the history of Canada holds.”
