Blue Ant International has acquired the global distribution rights to Stamp Productions’ documentary Silver Spitfire: The Longest Flight.

The film follows a British expeditionary team’s attempt at the world’s first circumnavigation of the Earth in an 80-year-old Spitfire fighter plane. During the four-month odyssey spanning 26 countries, pilots Matt Jones and Steve Brooks learn about themselves, their home and the fragility of the borders that define our planet.

Directed and produced by Stamp Productions Founder Benjamin Uttley, Silver Spitfire: The Longest Flight features a full orchestral score recorded by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Uttley accompanied Jones and Brooks on the trip in order to shoot the film.

Silver Spitfire: The Longest Flight is set to make its debut at the Manchester Film Festival on March 20.

Silver Spitfire combines history and adventure in a fresh and fascinating way,” said Bryan Gabourie, senior VP of international sales and partnerships at Blue Ant International. “This incredible around-the-world journey that the documentary embarks on and the exciting challenges along the way make for a universal story that will be appreciated by audiences around the globe.”

Uttley said, “The fact that Silver Spitfire: The Longest Flight was shot just before the world shut its borders and is now being premiered at a time when we find those borders very much under threat should give us all pause for thought. What was possible until very recently is now not—the extraordinary feat achieved by the pilots to take this wonderful Spitfire around the world is truly phenomenal. The film tells of the challenges, the highs, the lows and the sheer joy of flying an 80-year-old fighter plane around the world. At its heart this is a film about people, hope and courage. Through the pilots’ relationship it shows what connects us on a deeply personal level, and the journey itself represents what unifies us at a far more basic, fundamental level. Blue Ant International has a reputation for distributing wonderful, important films, and we’re looking forward to audiences getting to see this premiere at the Manchester Film Festival before it takes off around the world like our Spitfire did.”
