BBC One has commissioned U.K. production house Spun Gold TV to make a new documentary set in one of Liverpool’s most popular getaways, The Shankly Hotel.

Tentatively titled A Very Northern Hotel, the doc will follow the staff as they cater to a diverse group of guests who hail from all corners of the world and gather at The Shankly to celebrate everything from weddings to bachelorette parties. The Shankly’s more riotous events usually occur in the large party rooms on the top floor, where high-energy groups of young guests sleep in 24-person communal rooms, alongside dance floors, Jacuzzis and even a swimming pool.

The documentary is distributed internationally by all3media international.

Clare Sillery, head of documentary commissioning at the BBC, said, “We hope this film set in the Shankly hotel will tell us something about aspiration in Britain today, by looking at how families from every walk of life chose to celebrate and mark the biggest events of their lives.”

Daniela Neumann, managing director of Spun Gold TV, said, “A Very Northern Hotel is a warm, funny documentary that provides a unique snapshot of modern Britain, revealing guests’ hopes, fears and aspirations as they mark watershed moments.”
