BBC Goes for Steve Backshall & The Vertical Mile

BBC has ordered Steve Backshall & The Vertical Mile from ScreenDog Productions and Escapade Media.

Naturalist and adventurer Backshall attempts his life-long ambition to scale one of the highest vertical mountain faces in the world, the North Face of The Eiger in Switzerland. The series and climb are expected to be shot in March 2018. Steve Backshall & The Vertical Mile will be available with three weeks of ‘As Live’ daily feeds, and as a completed format of 2×50-minutes in 4K or 3×30-minutes, also in 4K, with 5×3-minute virtual-reality shorts.

Backshall said: “Being able to take someone from their front room to the most terrifying place on the planet, is almost as big a thrill as climbing it.”

ScreenDog Productions’ Ed Kellie commented: “Steve pushing himself to his very limits with this climb, and seeing how he and climbing partner Leo Houlding get through it, will make for a gripping story.”
